2010 FIFA World Cup
The FIFA World Cup (also called the
Football World Cup, the Soccer World Cup, or simply the World
Cup) is an international association football competition. The
current champions are Spain, who won the 2010 tournament. The
current format of the tournament involves 32 teams competing for
the title at venues within the host nation(s) over a period of
about a month – this phase is often called the World Cup Finals.
A qualification phase, which currently takes place over the
preceding three years, is used to determine which teams qualify
for the tournament together with the host nation(s).
The World Cup is the world's most widely viewed sporting event; an estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany. The next three World Cups will be hosted by Brazil in 2014, Russia in 2018, and Qatar in 2022.
FIFA World Cup History
The first FIFA World Cup opened at the brand-new Estadio Centenario in Montevideo on 18 July 1930. It was the beginning of a new era in world football and the inaugural event proved a remarkable success, both in a sporting and a financial sense. Of course, the organisers were disappointed that only four European sides had participated. The anger in Montevideo was so intense in fact that four years later, world champions Uruguay became the first and only team to refuse to defend their title.
The significance of the new tournament only increased following the setback FIFA suffered in the lead-up to the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. After failing to settle differences of opinion over the amateur status of footballers with the International Olympic Committee regarding the amateur status of football players, plans to organize the Olympic Football As the only candidate, Brazil was chosen unanimously to host the next FIFA World Cup, to be staged in 1949 (and postponed to 1950 for time reasons). At the same time, Switzerland was given the option for 1954.

The 2010 World Cup will be one of the most
watched events this summer. As such, getting the rights for
sponsorship of the event is a huge deal for a company. For those
selected, it is possibly the largest publicity event for their
company. The 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be insured for
more than GBP£6.2 billion according to Lloyd's of London, the
world's biggest insurance market; FIFA, national teams,
broadcasters and other businesses that have a financial interest
in the tournament's success have all taken out insurance
policies.
World Cup Sponsors
The eight companies, Anheuser-Busch InBev's
Budweiser, BP Castrol, Continental tires, McDonald's, MTN,
Mahindra Satyam, Seara and Yingli Solar, are at the World Cup
Sponsor level and pay anywhere from US$10 to US$25 million in
annual fees betting bonus Bet24. These companies have acquired the rights to the
event at a world-wide level and they also have chosen marketing
assets, secondary media exposure and the assurance of category
exclusivity.
